He is Chairman and CEO of Brunello Cucinelli SpA, an Italian fashion house operating in the high-end luxury goods sector and specializing in cashmere, that has become, over time, one of the most exclusive brands in the ‘informal luxury’ pret-à-porter sector worldwide. His life dream has always been to make man's work more human, seeking to confer both moral and economic dignity, always trying to unite profit, talent and guardianship, thus realising a form of ‘contemporary humanistic capitalism’. Brunello Cucinelli has received an extraordinary number of national and international awards for his ‘Humanistic Capitalism’. In 2018, the University of Messina, considering Brunello Cucinelli "a concrete thinker, cultural promoter and true patron of our times", awarded him an honorary PhD in Philosophy. Previously, in 2010, he was appointed the prestigious title of Cavaliere del Lavoro, delivered to him by the President of the Republic, and in the same year he received an honorary degree in Philosophy and Ethics of Human Relations from the University of Perugia, paying tribute to his many activities as a humanist entrepreneur. In 2017, he received the ‘Global Economy Prize for the World Economy’ from the authoritative Kiel Institute, with the comment that he "[...] perfectly embodied the figure of the Honorable Merchant". The following year, in 2018, he was awarded an additional prestigious title of excellence, becoming a Knight of the Grand Cross of Merit of the Italian Republic. In September 2021, he received the ‘Designer of the Year’ award in London from the important British men's fashion magazine «GQ», confirming his continued humanistic commitment as a designer and entrepreneur and for his various projects of human sustainability. In October of the same year, Brunello Cucinelli was invited to attend the G20 in Rome to present his idea of ‘Humanistic Capitalism and Human Sustainability’ before world leaders and His, at that time, Royal Highness Prince Charles – now King Charles – of the United Kingdom. In 2022, he was awarded an Honorary PhD in Management, Banking and Commodity Sciences from the University of Rome ‘Sapienza’, a prestigious title – as Dean Antonella Polimeni beautifully put it – «for managing to combine a successful entrepreneurial story with respect of the vocation of the territory and social values, generating a new humanism of enterprise". His characteristic entrepreneurial approach has always been to offer work that fully respects the ‘moral and economic dignity of man’. He thus conceived his company not only as a tool to generate profit, but also as a means to develop a model of capitalism that places the human individual and his valorisation at the centre. In March 2023, he received the prestigious Neiman Marcus Award for distinguished services in the field of fashion, which the Dallas luxury department store has been conferring on the world’s most influential figures in fashion since the 1930s.
